Bill, Tommy and I are enjoying a two-week stay in the Bay Area visiting with lots of friends and family. Tommy is doing very well being introduced to everyone and is sleeping in large four-hour increments at night. (definitely something to be thankful for)
Here's a little teaser of photos to come:

Today I visited my office with Tommy. Since I had intended to work another week when I went into labor, there were some items I wanted from my desk. We were greeted with lots of oohs and aahs and he did really well as a few of my co-workers wanted to hold and cuddle with him. I made sure that no one was sick in the office before heading over.
When we were there he started getting hungry. One of the things he does when he's hungry is start sucking on his hands, or his shirt or whatever item happens to touch or come close to his mouth. Usually he sucks on his hand around his thumb knuckle as he hasn't discovered his thumb yet. Today he started sucking on his wrist... and managed to give himself a hickey.
Bill and I found it hilarious!
He's starting to smile a bit more. Most of the time it's an involuntary smile and he usually smiles when he's half asleep or if he's just pooped. I've seen a few half-smiles when I'm talking or singing to him. I'm hoping to get some genuine smiles in the coming weeks.
Have a nice weekend!

Tommy turned one month old yesterday. He's sleeping in his crib more and is taking a liking to the swing. We had a couple of nights last week where he slept for chunks of four or five hours, it was quite nice. We must have become too optimistic, because he has been fussy and gassy at night for the past couple of nights. Last night he was awake from 11pm until about 7am crying every time one of us tried to place him in his crib... it was a long night.
He's grown noticeably to Bill and me, but we weren't sure how to show it through photos.
These three are from when he was just a couple of days old:
These are from last evening:
Same position on Bill's lap. I guess you'll just have to see him in person to really see the difference.
Some other photos from this week:
I almost caught his smile here! Almost!

Last week my due date came and went. I was actually sad that day. Not sad because I missed being pregnant, I don't. Well, I do miss having the belly, but I don't miss the swollen feet, back aches, indigestion and overwhelming fatigue. I think I was sad because I had spent so much time and energy preparing for Tommy's arrival that I never got a chance to take it all in when it was happening. It went by in a hurried flash and it didn't really hit me that it was over until my sleep deprived mind realized that my due date was actually here. Thankfully, I have an adorable child that likes to cuddle and make funny noises and funny faces at me. Those little moments make me feel so much better.
Mom spent the weekend with us over Halloween. Bill and I had hoped that Tommy would be born before Halloween so we could dress him up. He arrived in plenty of time, but infant costumes are all too big for him. So we opted for a themed outfit rather than a real costume. I figure next year he should be starting to walk, so we can get him a real costume.
He hated wearing the hat and the booties didn't stay on at all.
I was happy to find a Halloween-ish onesie that actually fit him.
Passed out on Jackie's...uh... chest.
Jackie and Arthur joined us Halloween night. Jackie was dressed as a 1980s Madonna. We ordered takeout from a new restaurant, George's Greek Cafe, that has opened just down the street from us. It's part of a very small chain of restaurants that Bill and I are big fans of. They have restaurants in downtown Long Beach and in Belmont Shores. We all shared large plates of lamb chops, gyros, rice, pita, lamb kabobs, hummus, Greek salad, calamari, Greek meatballs, dolmathes and plenty of tzatziki. Mom even picked up a bottle of their private label Pinot Grigio. We all ate way too much while Jackie and Bill handed out candy to the local trick-or-treaters. We went through four bags of candy by 8:30pm and called it quits. We were even being stingy and only giving out one piece per kid. There are a lot of kids in our neighborhood!
The other day I tried to take some more "artistic" photos of my little guy. He was in a good mood and I got a couple of decent shots. Taking photos of babies is much harder than it seems! Of course, I learned the hard way that I should have at least left him in a diaper. He managed to pee on the blanket he was laying on... a stream that shot clear over his body and across the sofa. And he didn't get a drop on him! I figured that was a good time to stop and do some laundry.
We're looking forward to the upcoming week of Thanksgiving. Bill and I will drive up to the Bay Area with the baby and spend the week up there visiting with as many friends and family as possible. I'm finding it quite convenient that I'm on maternity leave through the major winter holidays.

A quick update before the little guy wakes up... which will probably be when I decide to lay down in a few minutes.
He's doing great despite preferring to sleep during the day and be awake at night. He's still small enough that most of the newborn sized clothes are still too big for him. The only ones that fit are the Gerber brand onesies. Thankfully we have a bunch of them. He still doesn't like sleeping on his back, which is posing a challenge for us when getting him to sleep in his crib. His favorite place to sleep is still on someone's lap or chest. He loves to start fussing whenever I try to eat.
We've had a few visitors this past week:
Krista stopped by last weekend to say hello and be formally introduced to Tommy.
Uncle Eugene and Uncle Terry both made quick visits.
Eugene was bummed that I didn't say anything about being in labor when he was here last.
We took Tommy to In-N-Out for the first time.
Not like he got to eat anything...
A few people have asked why I go back and forth calling him TJ and Tommy. To me, a nickname hasn't stuck yet. I prefer to call him Tommy instead of TJ, but I don't have any problem with other people calling him TJ. Bill calls him TJ, Tommy and Thomas, it really varies. I'm sure a name will evolve in time. Until then, he goes by many names.
